What were the most important commandments according to Jesus? In Matthew 22:37 a lawyer asked him, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus answered him with Dueteronomy 6:5; “thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.”
But Jesus did not stop there, he continued with Leviticus 19:18, by saying; “ and the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two hang all the law and the prophets.” We must consider the three things Jesus said about love if we are to walk in love, and these three things are our Heart (kardin-2588) or our feelings; our Soul (pusche-5590) our very breath; our Mind (dianoin-1271) or our imagination and understanding, thoughts, feelings and our very life on this earth.- Strongs Concordance Greek Dictionary.
“Walk” in the Greek is the word “Peripates” and it means to tread all around, to live, follow as a companion, be occupied with.” So if we follow as a believer in Jesus, we live life to the fullest and we are to be occupied with our Fathers business. What does that mean? God is in the business of love, and we are too, once we believe. We are in the ministry of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18).
We are to help restore the lost family of God to fellowship with their Father who gave them life. Walking in love should become our lifestyle after we are born again into His family through Jesus Christ. In my last letter to the Church, I wrote about renewing our minds with the word of God. Without this renewed mind we will not be able to walk in love as we are supposed to do and we will miss opportunities to love others like God.
Walking in fellowship with God is the kind of real worship He desires of all mankind which He has created. This type of love and adoration is what Adam and Eve had in the Garden, coming from deep inside of them to touch the very heart of God. When we have this type of love for God the second type becomes so easy to love your neighbor as yourself.
Just who is your neighbor? The people you come into contact with daily. When you live the love walk your tongue will be under Gods control. Anger can be dealt with because of your renewed mind. You will not want to defraud or steal from them or hurt them in any way. These are your neighbors and they will see you with different eyes also. You need them as much as they need you.
The greatest reason to love someone is because they are created in God’s image, (Genesis 1:27) they are your brothers and sisters by being born a human. We all descended from Shem, Japheth, and Ham according to Genesis 10:1 as they were the only males left on the earth after the great flood. The Bible does not say that Noah had any more children.
In the book of Acts the brethren sold all and divided it among themselves so that every need was met among all of them. That is love at its highest level. No one had any lack. This is doing our Fathers business just like Jesus did as he walked the earth daily. Heal the sick, clothe the naked, visiting the homeless, orphans, widows, and bringing the lost family of God back home.
Just be aware of those God puts in your path daily. Smile and see if God opens a door for you to show His love to them. Don’t be pushy, just be friendly and listen to your heart. If a door is not opened just let that smile be real and tell them that Jesus loves them. He really does you know. Love will never fail, 1 Corinthians 13:8.
Put your smile into practice and remember you will make it, just don’t give up. See you next Sunday if we are all here still.
