As I search the internet about this question, I see a lot of disagreement among the various posts as to whether we are saved and sealed after we believe. Can we lose our salvation after we believe and be lost forever? Today as I write about this topic I hope to make it clear that being saved is a one time decision that is forever secured by God. Well meaning people sometimes forget to use logic as they read scripture.
The main thing to remember is that scripture will never contradict itself, it is Gods holy word. As you read it and before you decide what you are reading says something that is controversial, you need to make sure it does not contradict another New Testament writer. Well meaning people sometimes forget this very simple thing. So let’s dive right into this controversy as I give you my thoughts about this issue.
After we believe that Jesus is the Christ, and that he died for us, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise- Ephesians 1:13. Then we trust Him to keep and protect us from being taken away. Can you imagine anyone taking anything from God? I can’t! Jesus is the creator and we are his by design. Trusting in him to finish the work he started when we did our part to believe-Philippians 1:6.
God knew we would be a problem at times, but He is able to mold and make us into new creatures as we grow in His word- Ephesians 2:10, 2 Corinthians 5:17, plus a few others. Salvation is a free gift which cannot be given or taken away, because we did not earn it. He will do his part, of that you can be assured. He said He changes not, past, present, and future, He is the same always-Hebrews 13:8.
Our problem after we are saved is we lose our first love or passion. Being saved is like being married, you have to work at it daily to stay in love with a person. When you are first married all you can think about is your spouse. Then daily routine sets in as life gets in the way. If you are aware of it then you can work at it to stay in love. It is a decision you have to consciously make, or else you drift apart.
This decision is always up to you to stay in love with someone. The same principle applies to your love walk with Jesus. Will it be hard? Yes, at times it will seem impossible to renew that love you once had for him. But don’t despair, as long as you try to draw close to him, he will absolutely draw closer to you-James 4:8. You are sealed with his mark and that really means something, as you are now one of God’s children.
So to answer my question, yes, we are sealed by God’s Holy Spirit until the day of redemption- Ephesians 1:13-14, 4:30. We must trust Him to protect and keep us until that day. Trust is to expect with full assurance and complete reliance and confidence that what God started in you He will bring to a full redemption in due time.
This does not give us a right to sin and be rebellious as a spoiled child. We are to grow up and become responsible members of God’s family and fulfill our ministry of reconciliation to those who are running away from God. Our main purpose in this life is to touch someone’s life and awaken a dormant gift that has been placed there by Him. Every action we take has eternal rewards- Colossians 3:23-24.
So you can rest assured that once you are saved then you become God’s child and He will see you safely home. Always remember, you will make it, just don’t quit. See you next week as we study God’s word together.
