Years ago when I was a much younger man I heard John Osteen teach a sermon about this subject and today I will give you my remembrance of this wonderful story. It begins with a young girl that saw a beautiful dress in one of the local stores in her small town and she really wanted to have it.
When she got home she asked her daddy if she could have it. Her daddy told her that if she really wanted it then he would buy it for her but she had to wait until Saturday when they all went to town. Each day she said my daddy is going to buy me a pretty dress come Saturday. All week long as she played she was anticipating the approaching day when they all went to town together.
The dress was hers and she knew that, because her daddy had told her so. She was his daughter and he liked to please her because he loved her so much, and she knew that. The dress was hers even if she had to wait until Saturday to put it in her hands. She had her daddy’s word on it, so she knew it was a fact that the dress was hers come Saturday.
Our healing or whatever we believe for should be the same way. Our Father God has said in His word that whatever we ask for in prayer, believing, we shall have it-John 14:13-14. This is not a blank check to ask for just anything we want, it has to be in line with God’s will for us-1 John 5:14. And over in Mark 11:24, He reminds us that when we ask for something we desire, then we are to ask in prayer and then believe that we receive it as we pray, then we will have whatever we have asked for.
We can rest assured that just as this little girl was sure her daddy would do what he said he would do, we can have this same assurance that God will do for us the same and even more as He loves us more than we will ever know on this earth. If you find any promise in your Bible as you read it, that is your Father’s will for you, then you can ask Him for it, and it will give Him great pleasure to give you the things you find in His word that belongs to each of us.
We need to read His word daily to dig out all the treasure of blessings that He has given us in His Word. We need to anticipate the reality of receiving what we ask for daily. God’s word is true as this man’s word to his daughter was and even more so because God cannot and will not tell a lie-Hebrews 6:18. I hope this gives you something to encourage you as you run your race with patience-Hebrews 12:1- as you continue on with your life journey.
Life is hard but Jesus will never leave you alone and he is always there encouraging you to keep going. When you ask just be sure you ask in faith believing, because a doubtful attitude will never get you anywhere-James 1:6. Remember you will make it, just don’t give up. See you next time as we study God’s word together.
