Is your God just so big that you are in complete awe of His awesomeness? Or is He just big enough to understand with your finite mind, and fit into your plans and dreams? Only one answer will be about the God of the Bible and the other is just human wishfulness. I see so much on the internet about God and who He is, but no one is talking about this God of the Bible that we need in 2026.
There are many ways to look at this God question. Is He our personal genie, just waiting to give us whatever we want? Or is He just sitting there bored with our lives as we keep up with the Joneses? Good place to reflect on yourself now isn’t it? Who is on our throne of life, you or God? All good questions, but this letter I’m writing today is about the God of the Bible, OT and NT.
Did all those Old Testament books really come from Him? Did He really do all those wonders that we read about? Yes, is the only correct answer to be made if He really is God, and it’s His Word that we read. It can be trusted one hundred percent all the time, sealed in His own blood on the cross of Calvary as Jesus gave his very life for all of us.
The only way to truly answer this question is through the scriptures themselves. 2 Timothy 3:16, All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness…. You cannot get any plainer than that.
Is God really sovereign? This English word we love to use is not even in the Bible! So what does it mean, and does the Bible agree with its definition? Mr. Webster: possessed of supreme power, unlimited in extent, absolute, having undisputed ascendancy. Sounds like the God of the Old Testament to me.
Is God perfect? In Matthew 5:48, Jesus says; Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. God being perfect is not a condition He became, He was always perfect. He had no beginning, and He has no ending, He always existed as God. More than our human minds can comprehend or even process.
Is God’s Word to be trusted? Can we depend upon it, even though it was written down by many different writers over thousands of years? These men were not just humans writing down their own thoughts. They were being directed by God’s Holy Spirit. David said in Psalms 138:2 that God has magnified His Word above His name! That is quite a statement about its integrity and divine authority.
In our modern day hectic, fast paced, dying world, we see all kinds of human thoughts on the World Wide Web, that are describing what God is like. From people who may or may not even know the God of the Bible. Galatians 6:7 and Matthew 24:4 warns us about being deceived by other people who can sound so right, yet they are just somewhat right to draw us into their deceptions. Check out everything you hear with the Bible to make sure it agrees with their beliefs. We are the ones that are responsible for what we believe.
I believe that is enough ground work for you to believe that our Bible is just what it says it is. God’s Word to us about who He is, and how He loved us so much, that He sent His only begotten Son Jesus to take our sins and die our death on that cross. All we are required to do is believe. Now I will try and compare our Protestant Bible with the Catholic one, as that is the main purpose of this letter to you all.
Our KJV Bible does not have the 14 books that the Catholic Bible contains; Tobit, Judith, Ester, Wisdom of Solomon, Sirach, Baruch, Prayer of Azariah and the Three Holy Children, Story of Susanna, Story of Bel and the Dragon, Prayer of Manessa, 1 Maccabees, 2 Macabees, 1 Esdras, 2 Esdras. If you don’t have a Catholic Bible you can buy one and read these books for yourself.
These books were removed from the Protestant Bible in post 1885 for several reasons. One was to cut cost and make the Bible more affordable for everyone. The other reasons is that it did not meet certain criteria for inspiration, apostolic authorship, and early universal acceptance by the church of that time, were often rejected for being written after the first century and contained inconsistencies or reliable authorship. The Old Testament books were rejected because they were written in Greek instead of Hebrew.
Early church leaders were sometimes in agreement with the reading of these books for enjoyment but not for scriptural inspiration just as we might read a novel today. They lacked Divine inspiration and consistency with the other scriptures that were inspired by God. There really are no lost books of the Bible, we have all we need to read and understand who He is and obey His words as we believe. These books are not lost, but were rather rejected as canon by chosen men of God of our past as not being inspired as the inerrant word of God- 2 Timothy 3:16-17.
There are letters that are missing from the New Testament by Paul and John. They are referred to in 1 Corinthians 5:9, Ephesians 3:3-4, Colossians 4:16, and 3 John 1:9. There is also the mention of the prophecy of Enoch in Jude 1:14-15. In the Old Testament we read about some missing books that are also considered lost, such as Jasher in Joshua 10:13, Wars of the Lord in Numbers 21:14, Prophetic Records in 1 Chronicles 29:29, and Solomons Proverbs and Songs in 1 Kings 4:32.
Martin Luther did not consider 4 books of our New Testament as canonical, Hebrews, James, Jude, and Revelation. He did not put them in the center section of the Apocrypha, but he did move them to the rear of his Bible. This was because he had doubts about their being inspired of God.
As I close this letter I believe I have given enough information to convince both the skeptics and believers alike that our Bible is the Word of God. God is who He said He is, and if He could not direct the hands of chosen men while they wrote down His thoughts and wisdom; then He really would not be Supreme God would He?
I hope you enjoyed this small look at who our God is as much as I have had writing it. Remember, you will make it, just don’t give up. See you in my next letter as we study God’s word together. I love you all.
