Today I want to write about a subject that is not often taught in mainstream Christian Churches. The creation of God, called Lucifer or Satan. As I looked for information on this entity on the internet, I found something on YouTube that concerned me greatly. This enemy of God is being portrayed as a person that interacts with humans face to face. Very disconcerting to say the least, to see this fallen angel being portrayed as an immortal person as a movie icon. Have we slid down this slippery slope of sin this far to see this fallen angel portrayed as a movie star?
Or is it just to be expected to see him this way, since I believe we really are in the end time. This would be just another way to make him less scary when he appears as the anti christ of the Bible in Revelation. I for one will not be going to see this movie, we are warned in the new testament that we are to take care to not be deceived, (2 Corinthians 11:3 and many others).
Now that I’ve said that, just what does the Bible have to say about this fallen angel, that has caused so much pain and suffering for our world for over 6000 years?
This creation of God is not just some fairy tale or legend. He is very real, he is not scary looking, nor does he have horns and a long tail, wearing a red suit. The Bible makes this comment about him in Ezekiel 28:15-17-“thou hast been in Eden, the garden of God….thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee, thy heart was lifted up because of thy beauty.” I used only part of this scripture to show you that he is not scary looking, but he is so dangerous to us by his ability to deceive us.
This does not sound like the enemy of our God, so often shown as a frightening creature that breathes out fire as he speaks, does it? I am not going to give you just my opinion of him as I write this letter to you. Just the real facts from Gods word in the Bible, as written by King James over 400 years ago. I want to start by saying that there are many false teachings in the organized church, and this one of them; Satan is in heaven accusing us before God. Poppycock!
They use the scripture in Job as their source. This book is supposed to be the oldest book in the Bible after Genesis, the beginning of time as we know it. This would place him alongside of Adam as a pre-alluvial man or else one right after the flood. Just my opinion, you make up your own mind as we study this together. The Bible does not tell us when he lived on the earth, only that he did. We do not know his age when he was tried by the devil, but we do know that he lived 140 years after all his calamities inflicted on him by Satan. He could also be a patriarch of Abraham’s time also, as they lived really long lives as post flood people.
Since we are in Job, let’s explore this story before we go on. Job 1:6 says, “ there came a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord and Lucifer was among them.” Now turn to Job 2:1 as it says, “ again there came a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord and Satan was also among them to present himself before the Lord.” This period of time is not explained to us, nor is the reason explained as to why he was allowed in Gods presence.
The angel Lucifer was allowed by God to come before him. This fact alone is more than we can understand or comprehend. Our God is holy and can not stand the sight of sin in His presence. (Habakkuk 1:13) Yet here is the originator of sin or rebellion against God. Very wild to say the least! Back to the scriptures on this fallen angel.
Let’s look at Isaiah 14:12-17, “how art thou fallen from heaven, O’ Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which did weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mountain of the congregation, in the sides of the north. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the most high.” Five times he says I will!
This story is about the King of Babylon and Satans rule through this man. God is talking to two people here, the enemy of God and the man who allowed him to use him. Lucifer understood how God uses words to accomplish His will, so we see the devil using words to try and establish his will by trying to speak these things into existence. (Romans 4:17)
But as always God has the last word as He says in verses 15-17, “ yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit, they that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms, that made the world a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof, that opened not the house of prisons?”
This is speaking about the earthly king, but it is also speaking to Lucifer as God reminds him of his end. In Revelation 20:1-3 we see just one angel of God taking a great chain and binding Satan up and throwing him into the pit for a thousand years. Just one angel, not a group, just one!
Now we need to look at Ezekiel 28:13-19 and see another view of this fallen angel. “ thou hast been in Eden, the garden of God, every precious stone was thy covering, the sardis, topaz, diamond, beryl, onyx, jasper, sapphire, emerald, carbuncle, and gold. The workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou was created. Thou art the anointed cherub, thou wast upon the holy mountain of God, thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stone of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day thou wast created, till iniquity wast found in thee. Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness, I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.”
These two prophets give us a view of the enemy of God as he works through the spirit of men that allow him to use them. Now let’s look at the book of Revelation, as we see what happens to him as told to John by God.
Revelation 12:7-9, “and there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, and prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”
Some commentators see this scripture as being in the future, but I believe it is a recounting of the past. The reason for my opinion is found in Luke 10:18, this is where Jesus says to his disciples that he saw Satan as lightning fall from heaven. God was telling them that their enemy was no longer above them, but on the earth where they would have dominion over him by his sacrificial act, that he (Jesus), was about to give them by his death and resurrection.
Don’t be afraid of this fallen angel, we call Satan. He is looking for those he can deceive, and deception is his only weapon we are to be concerned about. Stand your ground, and put on your armor, speak to him in the name of Jesus, and the word of God tells us he will flee from us (James 4:7). Always remember, you will make it, just don’t give up. See you next time as we study the word of God together.
