Today I want to write a letter to you, my brethren in Christ Jesus, about us being priest unto our God.We have for too many years been following men, and not our King, it seems to me. We have been taught by organized religion to follow their teachings or doctrine. This seems contrary to the Bible to me. But on one point I tend to agree. We need to be taught and guided in this walk of faith in Christ Jesus.
I hope to show you today, that each of us are priest by our belief in Jesus, as Gods only begotten Son. We start out this life of faith as innocent children, that are wanting to be inspired, instructed, and shown how to live a godly life pleasing to our Father. Does it happen? Sometimes, but mostly we get trained up in religion, and not the word of God. This is why there are so many different denominations, each one believes that they are right! My brethren, this is wrong! There is only one way, and that is Gods way.
What do I mean? Good question, and I hope I can explain my views to you clearly. I wrote about this life of being a priest, December 2, 2020, so you need to go back in my blogs and read that letter too. I know we all read the Bible, but how much do you credit it to be written to you personally? I strive to get you to understand that this New Testament that we stake our eternal futures on, is written to each of us, the believers in Jesus being who He said He was.
Why don’t we as Christian’s believe that we are actually priest unto our God? We don’t need a degree from some cemetery, I mean seminary, to become a priest. God himself tells us we are priest unto him in 1 Peter 2:9, and Revelation 1:6. Do we need a man’s approval? Surely not! If we took our position more seriously, we would become more accountable for our own actions. Our Father God has been trying to get His people to be priests unto Him since Exodus 19:6. These people were not even saved and we are.
In Exodus 19 we see God offering this wonderful gift of being priest unto the whole nation of Israel. But they wanted no part of it, so God used the Levites as His priest until the “completed plan of God” would come to pass with the birth of Jesus. Now after the resurrection, as each person is born again into the Kingdom of God, the real priesthood becoming what He had planned from the beginning.
But the Church leaders in the past prevented the people of God from knowing who they really are in Jesus, by not teaching them who they really are in Gods eyes. Mankind always wants to have control over their domain or circle of influence. So this control continues today as each church leader tries to keep his imaginary position of power over those whom he has in his church. Brethren, this is why I continue to plead with you about studying the Bible for yourself so you will not be so easily manipulated and deceived.
I’m not against Church leaders as that is scriptural, but it’s your responsibility to read the Bible, and not just read it, but study it to make sure what you are being taught is agreeing with it and not just someone’s opinion. The church has become a laughing stock to the world, as we fight with each other and allow all kinds of sin to go unchallenged in our midst. Shame on us!
In the KJV it tells us we are kings and priest. But there is only one King, and his name is Jesus. When you look at each word in the Greek you will find it means a foundation of power, dominion, realm or reign. Mr. Ellicott says this in his commentary on Exodus 19:6 “ All of them both kings and priest unto God, kings, as lords over themselves, equal one to another, owning allegiance to God only, priest, as entitled to draw near to God in prayer without an intermediary, to bring Him their offerings, pay Him their vows, and hold communion with Him in heart and soul. The same privileges are declared by St. Peter (1 Peter 2:9) and St. John (Revelation 1:6) to belong to all Christians, who in this respect, as in so many others, are now the Israel of God (Galatians 6:16).”
We have all authority given to us to act in His name (Jesus), at the very most we are in charge of our own kingdom, our circle of influence, where we are at any given time or place. Never a King, but always a Priest, loyal to the one to whom we belong. This is what makes us Christians, and as we strive and push ourselves towards the mark of His high calling, (Philippians 3:14) this is our foundation of power in Him through Holy Spirit which lives in each of us.
We have the responsibility to use this office of a Priest with all sincerity and faithfulness, as we reach out to others with His love. Love is our calling, our main obligation, our very purpose in life is to show others that God loves them, and all they have to do is receive it. Do we do this? I’m sad to say, but the answer is no. This is why Paul wrote (1 Corinthians 13:1-13) to the Corinthians that love is to be our main focus and purpose. Anything less is just doing as the world does.
Realizing that you are a real priest will take some getting used to, but if God said it then you can believe it. Walk in real love, and remember that love is an action word, so put some action in your love! Invite someone to your home and share a meal with them and watch Gods love begin to melt your own hardened heart as you get to know these other marvelous people He allows into your lives. Even a simple smile shows someone you meet that you are different, so smile, you are on Gods camera.
I hope this letter has touched you and will help you along in this race of life we are all in. Most people still don’t understand that we are all in this together, it’s just our final destination that can be different, heaven or hell! It’s our decision individually, so do your part to show Gods love to those we meet. And always remember, you will make it, just don’t give up. See you next time as we study Gods word together.
