This will be another short blog by me about the fall of mankind in the Garden of Eden. I have touched upon it in several of my blogs before but I really have not done too much study on this subject. I do know I have a much different view then the Bible Knowledge Commentary, or anyone else that I know of.
First question is, when did sin become sin? Did Eve cause sin or did Adam? In first Timothy we find Paul saying that the woman was deceived and was in the transgression? What is a transgression? The Greek word is parabasis, and it means to violate a command or to go contrary to it. Eve misquoted God as saying to not touch the fruit nor eat of it. It’s always dangerous to put words in Gods mouth!
Whereas God told Adam they were to not eat of it or they would die. She or Adam had added the extra word touch. She was not sure and as such she became an easy target for the serpent. Adam would not have been so easy to deceive. In Genesis we read that he was with her, but was he at her side during her conversation with the snake? We also need to remember that they were both created fully programmed by God with the knowledge of speech. We were not cave men grunting unintelligent sounds!
Just a few quick side notes here, she was talking to a snake! Has any one ever stopped to think about this? Did all the animals talk? We only know of one other animal that talked in the Bible, and that was a donkey that talked with Balaam when he was in danger of being killed by an angel. Should she have been surprised? Everything was new to these children of God so I doubt that she was surprised.
Since I am giving you free thoughts to think about, here is another one. What does the Bible mean when it says they were naked? I have heard many different interpretations of this but I like this one best. It is given in the Bible Knowledge Commentary. They were totally sinless and as such they were at ease with each other, without fear of being exploited or any potential for evil which did not exist. We cannot fathom this as we are fallen beings through Adam’s disobedience.
One last thing I would like to give you to think about as you study this fascinating story of man’s beginning in the book of Genesis. A few years ago as I was talking with a dear friend of mine in Virginia, she made this comment. Adam and Eve were created by God, and as such they had no belly buttons. Their children were born with them because that is how a baby human grows in the woman’s body and is fed and nurtured with the umbilical cord. Cool idea, and I see no room for error.
Now back to my subject on sin. In verse six we read these words “and gave also to her husband with her, and he did eat.” She had already eaten a bite and nothing happened to her, but when she gave it to Adam who probably saw her eat it and nothing happened, so he took a bite too. This is when something did happen to both of them! They knew at once they had been changed by their act of disobedience to what God had told them.
Adam, in my opinion could have told her to throw it away and rebuked the serpent with the Word of God, and chased him from the garden! Then he would have kept his dominion in spite of her disobedience. He was the one who allowed sin in the garden, not Eve. Adam was the figurehead of Gods word on the earth. He had complete authority over this special garden that God had created. God had also given him total authority over all the earth. (Genesis 1:25)
You don’t believe that? Let me give you a few things to consider then to help you see my point. Look at verse 15, chapter 3 of Genesis where it says- “and I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” God is talking to the snake because it allowed the devil to speak through it, and then He spoke to the woman as He pronounced a curse upon them and upon the earth.
The woman was still the same as before she ate of the forbidden fruit. She did not have a sin consciousness until Adam also disobeyed God. Still don’t believe me? Let me give you this interesting thought. The sin dna, aka the seed of disobedience is transferred from the man to the child, to whom only the woman can carry. This is why Eve did not fall or die spiritually when she ate of the fruit of disobedience. But, she did die spiritually when Adam also ate of the fruit, knowing full well what God had told him! Both of them were affected by his decision alone.
This is why God could use a woman to bear His child, Jesus. This seed of disobedience or dna is not within her to pass along to her child. This is why in Genesis 3:15 we read that her “seed” would bruise the serpents head. Not man’s seed but hers! Only the man can pass this seed of disobedience or fallen nature as we call it, to his child.
Adam just gave it all away by this simple act of disobedience. He failed to keep the garden as a watchman when he failed to remove the intruder, a talking snake, that was being used by Gods enemy. The word “keep” in the Greek means to hedge about with thorns, to guard, to protect, and to attend to as a watchman. I know this is just my opinion but it is one that I have determined to be correct by my study on Genesis. You will have to make up your own mind as you study this fascinating story of our humble beginnings. Not evolution, but creation by God Almighty.
Read this account of creation by God and be convinced that He is right and not man, with his foolish ideas of evolution and other ideas we come up with it prove there is no God and we are in control of our own destiny! Jesus is real, and He is coming soon to take us all home to be with Him forever. Read Acts 16:31 and become a believer and not a doubter. Also remember this, you will make it, just don’t give up. See you next week as we continue to study Gods Word together.
