And these signs shall follow them that believe; in my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing’ it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover (Mark 16:17-18). This was spoken by our Lord Jesus just before he left this earth after his resurrection. In verse 20 it records, And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Does this sound like todays believers? Not in the majority of Churches in America I’m afraid.
Over in Acts 5:12 we read, (And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people). here are some more scriptures for you to read and study in your own time of learning. Acts 2:22,43, 4:30, 5:12, 8:13, 14:3; 2 Corinthians 12:2; Hebrews 2:4.
The more I study the Bible the more I realize how far I fall short of being a Disciple, and the more I realize that the Church has the same problems as I have. We are just Christians, people who are saved but really not doing that much to change us or those around us. Sad, but very true I must confess. Are we all just babies? And even some are just faking it until they make it? Good questions, and I hope it stirs your inner spirit to do something about it.
I find so few Men of God that agree with me and what I believe and think, E. W. Kenyon was one of those men whom I believe was in my camp, and he is long gone (1948). Look up some of his books (19), and buy a few and see how different his outlook was than modern preachers. He was a Baptist by the way. John Lake, Smith Wigglesworth, John Alexander Dowie and many more are all Men of God whom I admire. I believe these men were the Marines of the Church. In our military Army, Navy, Air Force, only the Marines are different. They are forever Marines and they are a brotherhood of like minds.
Robert Liardon wrote several books on these men and women and he called it Gods Generals. Please purchase a copy and read about these great heroes of modern faith and I believe it will change the way you see the world around you.
I have for years wondered why signs and wonders were not in the Church. The only reason I can come up with is what is preached in most churches is not the Word of God, it is just a clever sermon of words to stir up your emotions and put you under condemnation. Just a mental exercise that has little to do with the Word of God. E.W.Kenyon said that “the preaching that produces little conviction is caused by the Word not having been in the heart of the teacher”.
I don’t know if he was correct on that point but I do know that if signs and wonders are not in the Church you go too, then the Word of God is not being preached. Just a clever sermon designed to tickle you ears (2 Timothy 4:3). It can not be anything else or the Bible would be lying and could not be trusted. We all know that can not be true! Gods word is what we need to trust. That is why I always tell you to study and prove what you are hearing is really the Word of God from pulpits everywhere. That includes Televangelist!
Mr. Kenyon also believed that revival would break out anywhere the Word of God was preached, just as it did in the early Church. Just read the book of Acts and you will see how the Lord added to the Church daily. God will confirm His word every time.
I have found in these 76 years of life on planet earth that your word is you! And you must learn to say, “I gave my word, I must keep it, no matter what it cost me”. If your word is of no value, you will reason that the Word of God is of no value also. I know we don’t say that but in effect that is what your subconscious thinks. Unbelief in the Bible is largely because of peoples lack of faith in their own word.
When you decide to act upon the Word of God, you are in effect doing it in faith. Anything less than acting on your faith is dead without works (James 2:26). Don’t let the Bible just become an intellectual exercise. It demands action which produces results. We must let it become part of us and God can and will work through us. What we do with the Word determines what the Word will do to and through us.
Let the Word of Christ then dwell in you richly (Colossians 3:16). You can soak in the Word and the Word will soak in you so that your words and Gods Word will become blended into one. This is what Robert Liardon wrote about as he reveals that each General was committed to Gods word. Did they all succeed? No, some of them failed miserably as they just like you and me were after all only human. PMS can lay waste to anyone. Power, Money, Sex are the traps that are set all around us by our enemy. Be very careful and keep your focus on the Word which is Jesus.
I am afraid that todays Christianity as a whole is just another Religion; instead of a living, breathing, life changing force that is not afraid of being politically correct and daring to believe God will do what He said He would do. I hope this letter stirs you up as you renew your own efforts in this race towards Home and become contagious to those around you. After all it is a giant marathon and not just a practice sprint. We need more runners and your life can help those who are just standing there on the sidelines to get involved and push aside the cloak of religion and dare to become Gods child and do the work of the Ministry.
Remember you will make it, just don’t give up. We are all in this together, give someone what you have and watch God use it to change another life just like He changed yours. See you next time.
