Redeeming The Time

“Behave yourselves wisely, living prudently and with discretion in your relations with those of the outside world, -the non Christians- making the very most of the time and seizings-buying up the opportunity, Colossians 4:5. Making the most of the time, buying up each opportunity, because the days are evil” Ephesians 5:16. Amplified Bible Translation

Such simple words which contain great meaning. To redeem time means to look for every opportunity to do good for someone. We are instructed to buy up or purchase each opportunity, which means it will cost us something. Nothing is free as there is always a cost. We never know how much we will change someone’s future by our actions. I for one do not want to harm anyone by being selfish and hoarding my time just for me. Our future is determined daily by our decisions. Please be wise in the making of them.

The King James Version also says that the days are evil and when we look around our modern world these words ring loud and clear to me. How about you? This has probably been said since the beginning of time. Every generation thinks they are living in difficult times that are getting worse than what their parents had. Just wait until the anti christ begins his reign, better yet don’t wait. If you have not made Jesus your Lord please take a moment and do so right now. Those times will be very difficult for mankind. Everything left to itself will begin to decay and 6000 years of mankind doing his own thing has brought much misery to our world.

While Jesus was here perfecting the time or finishing up the work He had started in the Garden, He gave us just two commandments to follow instead of all the Law. Love God with all your heart, and love your neighbor as yourself. This is the heart of God and when we keep these two commands we fulfill all the Law of God, and we will always give someone a brighter future by our love for them.

To redeem means to buy up, to purchase or to rescue from loss, to improve opportunity. When we buy something it will cost us something, either a change of money or a swap of something that is valuable to us, that completes the deal. Are you willing to spend or trade your time to help someone in need? I believe this has to be a decision that we make with compassion for others and not just ourselves. This is why we are to use wisdom, not just worldly wisdom but wisdom from Gods word which is far better. Only by reading the Life Instruction Book can we obtain this wisdom.

We never know how much we will change someone’s future by our actions, even if it’s just a smile to brighten their day. Every day we should look with the eye of love and find out what needs to be done. Making a wise purchase should be our goal. Spending our time doing what pleases our Father, just as Jesus did while He walked the earth in human form. The day we have now, is the future of tomorrow. Someone in the Sixties said, “today is the first day of the rest of my life.” These words are in reality the truth. What will you do with your today? Be a miser and keep what is yours? Or will you become a philanthropist and give to those who are so needy of what you have in abundance?

What do we have that is so abundant? Love is your answer. We each have all the love we need because God is love and if He dwells in you than you have it in great abundance, just give it away and it will just keep getting bigger. You are created to be a blessing, so just get on with it. Remember you will make it, just don’t give up.
