Ambassadors

I have been thinking lately about who we are. I do not mean who preachers say we are, but what does the Word of God, (Bible) say about us. Who are we as Gods children? We are called ambassadors in 2 Corinthians 5:20, and Ephesians 6:20 by the apostle Paul.

What is an Ambassador? Mr. Webster defines it as a diplomatic agent of the highest rank, accredited to a foreign sovereign or government as the resident representative of his own sovereign government for a special and often temporary diplomatic assignment. A authorized representative or messenger.

The Greek concordance defines the word as a representative. I believe this word is far more important than the Christian Church has ever known since Paul wrote it. I know the modern Church does not take time to see how it applies to their daily lives. Are you aware of how you represent the Lord Jesus every day? Time to wake up and get busy as an ambassador on a mission.

This word is so powerful, I do not know where to begin. Let’s look at the power words Mr. Webster has given us. (1) Diplomatic Agent, someone who is skilled in handling affairs without hostility and one that acts for another with authority. (2) Accredited, to provide someone with official authorization. (3) Representative, someone who represents another and that has been invested by this person or government with all authority needed. (4) Assignment, the duty to which someone is assigned by appointment. (5) Messenger, one who does an errand or dispatch bearer in government service. All these words are secular in meaning but they are right on when applied to the Kingdom of God.

An Ambassador is someone who is treated as sacred by most countries and his person is treated as free from assault and secure in his surroundings (Isaiah 54:17, John 10:28). We are “all” ambassadors for Christ, and we are “all” sent out by Him to do His will, as if He were here physically right now (Matthew 18:20). We are to make the peace between God and man, known to all those to whom we meet as God opens the door for us to minister (Colossians 4:3). We are not here to make known any new terms or conditions, nor are we to change that which God has given us by the Word of God.

We as ambassadors are not here to seek our own welfare and comfort, but to secure the welfare of those who do not know what God has done for them through Jesus, the Christ. This is where the Organized Church has missed it by a mile. Preachers and Priest have forgotten their assignment and they use their position to seek their own welfare, comfort, their own glory, power, honor, dignity and wealth. They have become convinced they are someone special and wear great robes, and funny looking headwear to exalt themselves.

Are we so foolish in our own conceit to put on such a religious charade? We are “all” ambassadors of the Kingdom of God, and we need to follow His example of humility (Philippians 2:7-8) and become useful vessels to those we are sent here as messengers to help. We need to shake ourselves and get on with the business which Jesus would be doing if He were here on this earth in person once again.

The Gospel message we are supposed to present to those who are opposed to God is one of simple love and hope, giving those who once were enemies of God (Romans 5:10, Colossians 1:21-23) to one where they become children of God and ambassadors like us. This message of hope and reconciliation can be summed up in 2 Corinthians 5:19. All mankind has to do to complete the terms is give up his opposition, be reconciled to God, and submit to the terms of mercy. God has done all He will ever do, or needed to be done. It is all up to us now.

We as ambassadors for God are equipped with all the necessary power of God to accomplish the task set before us. We represent Him and we are to publish the terms of peace to all mankind as if He were doing it Himself. This is the message I have tried to show you this morning. God is here on the earth in physical form living in us, and we have all the authority we will ever need to accomplish this task in the name of Jesus.

Remember, you are more than you think you are, and you will make it, just don’t give up. See you next week.
