What does allegiance mean to you? Mr. Webster defines it as the tie or obligation of a citizen or subject to his government or ruler. He also states that it is loyalty and devotion in general as to a church, a political party, a principle or leader.
This word has been a small problem to me for years. I have said the pledge of allegiance more time than I can remember. But did I ever realize what I was saying? I think not!
I have a friend who wanted to become a citizen of America, but she had a problem with saying the pledge. I thought this was strange. She understood what she was about to do. Her problem came from being Swiss and she would become a citizen of two nations. She could only have allegiance to one. This was the thing she knew, but I did not. To this day I do not know if she said the pledge or not.
Allegiance is a very powerful word as you study it in more detail. I will leave that up to you. The word involves obligation, faithfulness, promise, devotion, obedience, and trust. All these words I take more seriously the older I get. As a Christian I am required by Gods word to be a good citizen, and my obligation is to honor His word. Being faithful is a condition of the heart. I am a promise keeper to the best of my ability. My word is my bond. My devotion is to my King Jesus. I am obedient to Him and His word is my guide book of life. I trust my eternal future to Him as my Saviour
I am a citizen of Heaven. I am an American by birth, and I am ashamed of my Country. I can not have allegiance to more than one Kingdom or Country . I now have the same concern as my friend did years ago.
Lets look at Americas pledge of allegiance. ” I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty, and justice for all.” These words were not part of our nation until 1942. Frances Bellamy composed it in 1892. His original reindentation was “I pledge allegiance to my flag and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty, and justice for all”.
He was a Christian socialist who championed the rights of working people, and the equal distribution of economic resources, which he believed was inherent with the teachings of Jesus. This man did not believe in states rights, and he was a socialist in his beliefs, a Baptist Minister who lost his position because of his socialist teachings. He would fit right in our government today.
This pledge is not part of our Constitution in any fashion. But they push it upon the American people as if it were. The words “one nation under God” was added by President Eisenhower in 1952, and the words “the flag of the United States of America” was added in 1923.
My allegiance is only to my Lord and Saviour, King Jesus. My support is to the state where I was born, part of the states that make up America.
What is a Republic? Mr. Webster gives this definition, ” a state or nation in which the supreme power rest in all the citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by representatives elected, directly or individually by them and responsible to them”.
Our country “America” has lost its moral compass, and the people have lost their vote or voice. I will give you a supposed quote from Joseph Stalin “remember it is not the people who cast their vote who make a difference, but the people who count the votes who decide everything”. Sound familiar?
We have a Republic in words alone, a democracy is what they push and teach every day. Someone once said that a democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding what is for dinner.
I know this blog is not about the Gospel, but, it is about the Gospels future here in America. Our rights and freedoms are only guaranteed by words on a piece of paper. How long will this paper be honored?
I was born in 1946 and grew up in the last years of Americas freedom. Where I am today is not where I grew up. It is a sham, or illusion of what was, and it is the Matrix that will decide our future. Maybe Soylent Green? Maybe the anti christ? Only God knows.
Next week I will try to get back on track with the Good News. But, let me make this point very clear to everyone. My allegiance is only to my King Jesus, the Christ. I pledge my support to help others, as a priest unto God, my Father. My liberty is not what it once was, and justice is to be questioned at best here in America. I for one will never say the pledge of allegiance again, and have not said it for years, except as I wrote these words to you.
We all have to remember, You will make it, just don’t give up. See you next week.
